Hair is the second most metabolically active tissue. The very nature of its formation as a biological sample may provide a permanent record of metabolic activity occurring within the body during its growth. As such, the first inch and one-half of hair closest to the scalp can provide an accurate indication of the nutritional and toxic metal exposure over the previous six to eight weeks, detecting mineral deficiencies and inadvertent excesses. Hair is used as the tissue of choice by the Environmental Protection Agency in determining toxic metal exposure. A 1980 report from the EPA state that human hair can be effectively used for biological monitoring of the highest priority toxic metals; more appropriate than even blood or urine for studying exposure to some trace metals. Researchers in the United States, Germany, Sweden, Canada , and Japan have found close correlations between trace element levels in the hair and internal organs. Service includes hair sampling; assay of hair (35 elements); graphic illustration of levels and ratios, also from previous test results (when repeated); a complete individualized evaluation of mineral levels; recommendations and explanations of specific foods and food groups; recommended modifications of current supplementation, as indicated by tissue mineral analysis. Analysis derived by ICP-Mass Spectrometry and Uniform Temperature-Controlled Microwave Digestion.
