Service Description

Acupuncture is an ancient practice of primary and restorative healthcare passed down through generations of family lineages for over 3000 years. Eastern medical scholars, then and now, have researched Western medicine since the 1950s in an attempt to integrate principles of both practices, resulting in enhanced methods of treating the body, improving its responses, and stimulating its defenses. We must attribute and complement the undying devotion and ingenious awareness of nature of these generations and scholars in mapping the channels of energy in the body and how they communicate with each other. The many who have come to pass, each with their own theories of wisdom and understanding, impressed upon those who followed in their footsteps, techniques unique to their methods. TCM, or Traditional Chinese Medicine is a conglomerate of wisdom, a streamlined modality and way of treating systematic diagnoses, known as traditional patterns of imbalance. Specialty practices are named for the ancestor/scholar who penned his theories and promoted treatments to address more precisely, root causes in the body, i.e., those resulting from not one or more pathways of imbalance, but the entire interfacing network. "For if we do not address the lengths of the branches, we are only affecting the shadow they cast." I (Wendy Dutton, DAOM, L.Ac.) am trained in and utilize two of these specialty practices to treat the root cause of imbalance and illness, Classical (Worsely) Five-Element Acupuncture (CFEA) and Master Tung (Style) Acupuncture. I hold both a master's degree in CFEA, and a Doctorate in what is collectively referred to as Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, though several educational institutions are moving toward referring to it as East Asian Acupuncture. If we divide the word acupuncture into parts, we can safely presume it was derived by the intention of accurately inserting a tool (a needle in this case) to penetrate the skin. Larger, sharp objects were found or made to accomplish this in ancient times. Today, we use very thin, flexible needles to insert into acupuncture points, to elicit an electrical impulse on the spot, as well as from other points, near and far. Acupuncture points are 'wells' (like that of water) of energy. Similar to a well of water, points are fed by a number of resources. More importantly to note, we can access this energy and either increase or decrease the source connection to re-establish adequate and proper directional flow.
